[워싱턴=신화통신/] 미국은 유네스코(UNESCO: 유엔교육과학문화기구)가 팔레스타인의 유네스코 정회원 가입을 위해 유네스코 집행위원회에서 투표를 한 것에 강력히 반대하는 입장이라고 미 국무성이 5일(수) 발표했다.

“우리들은 유네스코 집행위원회에서 오늘의 투표를 강력히 반대했다”라고 미국무성의 빅토리아 눌란드 대변인이 말하면서, 이것은 유네스코 절차의 마지막이 아니며, 지금부터 회원가입을 위한 총회 투표까지는 한 달이 남았다고 지적을 했다.

일찍이 5일(수) 유네스코 집행위원회의 58회원국 중 40여 개국이 유네스코 총회 193개 회원국들로 하여금 이달 하반기 팔레스타인 정회원 가입투표를 실시하도록 결정했다.

미국, 독일, 라트비아, 루마니아 등 4개국의 거부권 행사와 14개국의 기권이 있었다고 한 외교소식통이 신화통신에 제보해 주었다..

미국은 보안과 자위권행사와 상호인정을 요하는 가운데 이스라엘과 이웃한 팔레스타인이 유네스코에서 가입 안을 신청한다고 해서 회원가입이 이뤄지는 것은 아니라고 믿는다고 말했는데, “이것은.오직 양 당사자 간 협상으로서만 가능한 일이기 때문이다”라고 눌란드 대변인은 누차 강조했다.

미국은 그 과정을 봉쇄하기 위하여 지금부터 유네스코 회원국들에게 의안이 넘어갈 때까지의 그 시간을 활용할 것이라고 눌란드 대변인은 말했다. 팔레스타인은 집행위원회가 오는 25일에서 11월 10일까지 파리에 있는 유네스코 본부에서의 총회에 참석한 유네스코 193회원국들의 최소 2/3의 비준을 받을 때까지 회원국 자격을 얻지 못하게 된다. 9월말 팔레스타인 자치정부는 정회원가입을 국제연합(UN)에 신청했다.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. "strongly opposed" the vote in the UNESCO executive committee to allow its members to decide on the admission of Palestine to the organization, State Department said on Wednesday.

"We strongly opposed today's vote in the UNESCO executive committee," said state department spokesperson Victoria Nuland, adding that this is not "the end of the road" on UNESCO and there still has to be about a month 　　　　　　　　　　　　from now to a vote of the full membership.

Earlier on Wednesday, some 40 out of 58 members of UNESCO executive council decided to let the 193 member countries to vote on a Palestinian full membership later this month, with four vetoes 　　　　　　　　from the U.S., Germany, Latvia and Romania, and fourteen abstentions, a diplomatic source told Xinhua.

Nuland said that the U.S. believed that a move in UNESCO is not going to 　　　　　　　　create a Palestinian state that is living next to Israel in security, in self-determination and in mutual recognition, reiterating that the only way to get there is "through negotiations between the parties.

" She said that the U.S. will use the time between now and then to "make its case" to the UNESCO members in 　　　　　　　　　　　　order to block the process.

Palestine will not get the member state status until the approval of the executive council wins ratification of at least two thirds of all UNESCO 193 members which are due to meet for the general conference 　　　　　　　　　from Oct. 25 to Nov. 10 at its Paris headquarters.

In late September, Palestinian authorities has submitted its statehood request to the United Nations.
